In the highly anticipated Awarapan 2 vs Batwara 1947 clash, Awarapan 2 is leading the race in advance bookings for the upcoming Independence Day release on August 14. As of late August 12, the film had collected over ₹2 crore in advance ticket sales, significantly higher than the ₹53.21 lakh recorded for Batwara 1947, according to Times of India reporting citing Sacnilk data.

The difference is even clearer in ticket sales. Awarapan 2 has sold 62,431 tickets so far, while Batwara 1947 has sold 18,109. This gives Awarapan 2 a strong head start, but since advance bookings don’t tell the whole story, we will have to wait to see who wins the Independence Day box office race.

The fairest comparison comes from figures excluding blocked seats, since they place both films on the same measurement basis.

It is interesting to see how well Awarapan 2 advance booking is doing compared to Batwara 1947. Both movies are playing in about the same number of shows, Awarapan 2 has 3,684 and Batwara 1947 has 3,477. But even though they have a similar number of opportunities to sell tickets, Awarapan 2 is far ahead in actual ticket sales and total earnings.

The totals look higher, ₹3.51 crore for Awarapan 2 and ₹1.61 crore for Batwara 1947, when you add in blocked seats. But because blocked seats are not the same as sold tickets, it is safer to look at the numbers without blocked seats to see how the films are truly doing.

Where Awarapan 2 is building its pre-release advantage

We see the same pattern happening in two major cities, too. In Delhi-NCR, Awarapan 2 has brought in ₹51.44 lakh in ticket sales (not counting blocked seats), while Batwara 1947 is behind with ₹14.55 lakh. It’s a similar story in Mumbai, where Awarapan 2 leads with ₹29.84 lakh compared to ₹7.28 lakh for Batwara 1947.

That gives Emraan Hashmi’s film the stronger advance-booking position in the current snapshot, nationally as well as in these key cities. The Batwara 1947 advance booking figures remain part of a live pre-release picture rather than a final verdict, with bookings still open ahead of Friday’s release.

The two films enter the clash with very different positioning

Emraan Hashmi is playing his old character, Shivam, again in the new movie Awarapan 2. The BookMyShow information says Nitin Kakkar is the director, and Mukesh and Vishesh Bhatt are the producers. Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi are also acting in the film.

Vishesh Films officially announced the August 14, 2026, premiere back in April, positioning the film for the Independence Day box office. The movie received a U/A 16+ certificate after making the necessary changes requested by the censors. While a full record is not currently available in the public database, The Economic Times reported the rating, and the CBFC does directly list the theatrical teaser.

Batwara 1947 is a very different kind of film. It is a serious drama set during the time of the Partition, starring Sunny Deol. It is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan Productions. According to the official record, it also features a talented cast including Shabana Azmi, Preity G. Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Kanikka Kapur, and Khali.

The CBFC gave Batwara 1947 an A certificate, and the movie is 145.34 minutes long. It used to be named Lahore 1947 until Aamir Khan Productions officially announced the new title and 14 August release date in June. The Indian Express also reported on the name change and the release date.

The film is adapted from Asghar Wajahat’s play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamya E Nai.

Interestingly, Shabana Azmi is in both movies. But the two films are very different because they have different stories and styles.

The clash has an unusual Awarapan–Sunny Deol connection dating back to 2007

This is not the first time the Awarapan film has opened against a Sunny Deol release.

The original Awarapan arrived in cinemas on 29 June 2007, the same day as Sunny Deol’s family drama Apne released. According to Bollywood Hungama’s historical box-office archive, Apne movie opening day collection was ₹1.89 crore, while Awarapan opened with ₹0.79 crore.

Nineteen years later, the Awarapan movie is again going to clash with a Sunny Deol film. It is an interesting historical parallel, but not a basis for predicting the 2026 result.

The circumstances around Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947 are different, and their actual box-office performance will become clear only after audiences begin watching both films.

What the advance-booking lead can — and cannot — tell us

At the latest approved reporting point, Awarapan 2 has the stronger pre-release numbers. Its ₹2.05 crore advance gross excluding blocked seats is ahead of Batwara 1947’s ₹53.21 lakh, while its ticket sales also show a substantial lead.

Advance booking, however, is only one part of opening-day performance. Final pre-sales can change before shows begin, and neither film has an actual opening day collection yet.

Older trade projections should not be presented as the outcome of the Awarapan 2 vs Batwara 1947 clash. The next meaningful comparison will come after both films release on 14 August 2026, when their verified Day 1 India net collections can be compared using the same reporting source and period.

For now, Awarapan 2 enters the Independence Day weekend ahead in advance bookings. Whether that advantage carries through once both films reach cinemas will be decided at the box office.
